Proof of delivery - here to stay!
Electronic POD's have arrived at Dex's!!!!! Although most customers are content with paper proofs of delivery, we can now take signatures on PDA units which are then instantly transferred to our server and onto our customer when required.
Controlled destruction
We have obtained our (Environment Agency) Waste Carriers Licence enabling us to assist a Telford company with the collect of I.T. equipment for controlled destruction. Our drivers are well versed in admin, but we have still had to learn new procedures which are vital for audit purposes in this process.
Every little helps...
A recent project has seen us store, transport and install display material into 41 Tesco stores nationwide. We needed up to 2 hours on each site, and with strict time deadlines and precise standards to meet, we had to be at our very best to meet both Tesco and our client's needs!
More chilling!
We have extended our work in the Environmental Testing sector with our Chilled Vans delivering samples to Severn Trent Laboratories in 3 locations. This required our successfully completing National Water Hygiene Training, and we have to follow strict custody rules and identify product types as well.
The DMR team.On the road to success…
A Shropshire Chamber member has announced an exciting expansion and also several new appointments for the company.
DMR, known as Dex's Midnight Runners, are specialist same-day couriers based in Shrewsbury. They have recently extended their vehicle fleet to 14 (including three refrigerated vans) and also recruited five new staff members.
Company director Derek Bennion said: "We are delighted with the ongoing expansion of the company, having steadily increased turnover by over 60 per-cent during the past year.
"We pride ourselves on working 24/7 carrying out short-notice delivery and collections throughout the county and nationwide from our base here at The Rural Enterprise Centre on Battlefield Enterprise Park. Often this saves our customers time (and money) when otherwise they would deliver items urgent or fragile themselves.
"Many of our journeys can be classed as 'emergencies' but recently we came to the rescue of Chamber Partner Nick Chevasse, from nearby NRG Direct Mail, who's daughter Victoria was heading for Heathrow Airport from Exeter University when she realised that her passport was at home … in Wem!
"Nick raced home to collect the item and delivered it to us (with a suitable note to the errant forgetful daughter!) for our driver to set off to London. Using his road knowledge to avoid traffic jams, he finally handed over the passport to a rather embarrassed Victoria at the terminal, with only minutes to spare.
"Besides such 'delicate' items, we also try to go that 'extra mile' for our customers, having recently been requested to collect 27 laptop computers, routers and data cables from Solihull - all of which were still connected – dismantle, pack and transport them to London, all to deadline.
"We have just taken delivery of our third refrigerated Renault van to meet the increasing demand for transportation of temperature controlled food products. This recently included one tonne of liquid egg, which we managed to get to its destination without being scrambled!
"On a serious note, our refrigerated vehicles were used to transport flu vaccines during last year's pandemic scare and we will collect and deliver chilled medical supplies to locations across the country, including military centres, for which our drivers have full security clearance.
"Joining the DMR team are office staff Ollie Jones and Sue Williams, with new drivers, Gareth Jones of Ludlow, Noel Langstaff of Shrewsbury and Paul Adams of Bridgnorth.
"With our newly expanded team, we aim to extend our secure, direct and speedy courier service to even more clients over the next few months."

A musical tribute to outstanding service…
A Shropshire businesswoman who waited over a year to receive a handmade musical instrument she had was disappointed when it arrived with a problem.
The specialist flute, made by a renowned London craftsman Mike Allen, was ordered by Elizabeth Walmsley of Tariff Reduction Services, telecommunications providers, of Whitchurch.
“It needed tweaking slightly - a problem which could only be fixed by the person who created it,” said Elizabeth, a member of Shrewsbury Light Orchestra.
“When I realised there was a slight problem and the flute needed to be returned to London, not having the time to make the trip personally,
I didn’t want to risk the instrument being lost on an overnight transit”
“Thankfully Shrewsbury same-day couriers DMR Ltd, based on Battlefield Enterprise Park, really saved the day for me,” she said.
“Their driver Stan Edgar, from Longville, arrived in London at 9am and after talking to the manufacturer he found out that the instrument could be fixed within the hour. He dutifully waited and returned with the flute completely fixed, personally delivering it back to me in Whitchurch at 2pm.
“I was very impressed with this outstanding customer service and believe that such individual attention to detail deserves to be recognised”

Dex’s Midnight Runners hitting the right note…
When a Midlands printing company needed a batch of specially-printed CDs delivered to The Brit Awards in London at the last minute, they knew exactly who to turn to…
Same day courier company DMR - known as Dex’s Midnight Runners got the late afternoon call to rush a parcel of important music CDs to an official Brit Awards ‘after party’ being held in Soho by 7pm that same evening.
Driver Oliver Jones, of Bridgnorth, collected the package at 4pm and headed off to the capital in haste. He said: “The motorway was luckily pretty clear and I made good progress but when I neared Earls Court - the venue for the awards themselves - traffic was at a standstill.
“I was listening to music from the awards on myradio all the way down and was really hoping to catch a glimpse of Lady GaGa or Cheryl Cole, who had been invited to the nightclub party, which was being hosted by all the major record label companies.
“However, using some short-cuts, I finally managed to pull up outside Punk Nightclub at exactly five minutes to seven and once past the burly security guards, I literally stepped over all the cases of Champagne and personally delivered the CDs to the venue manager, who gratefully signed for the package.
“I was most impressed at the number of very well dressed people and especially all the glamorous women, but didn’t recognise anyone famous as the actual event itself was still
under way.
“It was all in a day’s work for me, but it’s a shame that I wasn’t invited to stay… I was back in Shropshire by 10pm!”
DMR director Derek Bennion commented: “We specialise in giving a rapid response to any "emergencies" requiring fast, secure, direct and competitive delivery anywhere in the UK and Europe so this job was ideal for us - and it was great to play a small part in such a prestigious awards ceremony.”
Derek Bennion from DMR with Helen Reynolds from Shading by DesignDMR goes that extra mile…
A Shropshire company which provides commercial shelters, awnings, heating and lighting systems to sites across the country has paid tribute to a county Chamber member.
Shading by Design, which transforms patio sites at pubs and restaurants nationwide to provide new business opportunities, rely on Shrewsbury company DMR Ltd - known as Dex’s Midnight Runners - to assist with important projects at very short notice.
Tasks have ranged from collecting awnings measuring over five metres long from Germany, to delivering and assisting with the construction of huge canopies in gale force conditions
in Scotland.
The same-day courier has an extensive team of drivers and fleet of high specification vehicles and has become an integral part of projects undertaken by Shading by Design, its neighbouring business at Battlefield Enterprise Park, in Shrewsbury.
Their director Helen Reynolds said: “I cannot thank Derek and the drivers at DMR enough for
the efficient and friendly support to our
business which they constantly provide.
“On one occasion they collected furniture and awnings from Norfolk and delivered them at 7am for a premier that evening in London’s Leicester Square. They even provided a vehicle and driver to help pack-up and clear the area after the event, whilst still managing to avoid
the theatre-goers.
“They really do go that extra mile to deliver our products and equipment to a multitude of sites and often work to very tight deadlines - we are extremely grateful for their efforts,” she added.
DMR director Derek Bennion commented: “ It is very exciting to be involved with Shading by Design on these projects but we are well aware of the need for meeting strict standards and deadlines. We are very lucky to have a fleet of drivers who strive to maintain such a high quality of service.”
